Dr. Simon Reif is a health economist and head of the Research Group “Health Care Markets and Health Policy” at ZEW – Leibniz Centre for European Economic Research in Mannheim (DE) since January 2021. He studied economics and sociology at FAU Erlangen-Nuremberg (DE), the University of Hull (UK) and LMU Munich (DE). After completing his PhD at FAU on the supply of medical services with a short stay at the Centre for Health Economics in York (UK), he worked as a policy and start-up consultant.
His areas of research focus on health economics and applied econometrics, with particular interest in behavioural and institutional aspects of medical service provision. Current research projects deal with the design of hospital payment systems, regional access to health care and strategies for supporting and evaluating digital health applications.
