Born on October 10, 1961 in Goslar, Lower Saxony, Prof. Dr. Eckart Würzner went to Heidelberg in the early 1980s to study geography.
He married his wife Janine in 1982 - together they have 4 children and 4 grandchildren. He began working for the city of Heidelberg as an environmental consultant for the top management before becoming head of the Office for Environmental Protection, Energy and Health Promotion and finally Mayor for Environment and Energy. In 2006 he was elected mayor.
Not only his studies and his doctorate, but also his work for the city of Heidelberg has taken Eckart Würzner abroad many times. He lived in France and the USA, conducted environmental seminars in Saudi Arabia on behalf of the Federal Foreign Office and took part in numerous climate protection conferences in Montreal, Sao Paolo, Rio de Janeiro and Paris. His vita is characterized by climate, environmental protection and sustainability. As a family man, Eckart Würzner also pays great attention to making Heidelberg family-friendly in his work as mayor and to setting the course today so that the city is also worth living in for future generations.
